I couldn’t sleep last night. I’m naturally a night owl, but with sleeping pills, I’m usually out by midnight. Last night, though, my mind wouldn’t shut off completely. I kept on thinking of how I grew up; all the hardships and pleasures I had to go through in order to be the person I am today. Years back, I had decided that if given the choice, I wouldn’t change a minute of it- not even if I was given the chance to go back and say goodbye to my dying grandmother.
From each moment in my life, good and bad, I have learned something from it. My grandmother, whom I loved dearly, didn’t deserve to have me leave her on her deathbed, but from this she taught me one of the most important lessons I’ve ever learned thus far: never leave without saying ‘goodbye’, or ‘I love you.’ While it still haunts me to this day, I know that this was a lesson I needed to learn; along with how to be beautiful.
